Some 50 art lovers enjoyed the festive atmosphere with snacks, slideshow (see below) and live music and took the opportunity to catch up with friends, meet some new people, and to enjoy the work of 19 artists displaying over 50 pieces throughout the Malaspina Exhibition Centre at VIU. Jean Medley represented her mom Ursula who unfortunately was not able to attend the gathering itself. See the show Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:30pm until June 20th at VIU-PR

For many painters this exhibition is an opportunity for artists to exhibit their work for the first time, and to be supported by experienced painters in our community. ‘We rise by lifting others”.

“I like to think that inside each of us is a creative place.
Congratulations to each artist who makes the first mark on fresh ground, discovers the magic of applying paint to ground and finds the courage to share their work with the world.”

As an art educator with more than 50 years painting experience I share these sentiments. Each painting prepares me for the next one. With each fresh canvas I feel moments of insecurity. When I make the first mark on the canvas I awaken the miracle that evolves. Learning is a life-long process. I’m still learning. With the brush and paint as my instrument, My body as the vehicle.

I connect with my soul To paint the essence of the subject And set my mind free. Connect Commit Select Keep Going Congratulations to each artist who makes the first mark on fresh ground, discovers the magic of applying paint to ground and finds the courage to share their work with the world.
