MAS Summer Group Shows: Online Editions “Art Under Lockdown” & “Intertidal Impressions”

Malaspina Art Society (MAS) had to cancel a planned ‘in person’ group art exhibition on the theme of “Intertidal Impressions” due to Covid-19 distancing restrictions at our venue, Vancouver Island University’s Powell River Campus. So, we invited local artists to submit to our online gallery, plus we figured we’d share some of the art we were doing under the lockdown itself, to address the ‘elephant in the room’ with a second “Art Under Lockdown” group show. Two gift certificates to Opus Art Supplies will be picked randomly (one for each gallery artist) by MAS! Lorna Downie. "Afloat" 24"x30" Acrylic on canvas. Looking for inspiration from recent travel photos, I was drawn to this image of the lone swimmer taken from a cliff side hike in Croatia. Water is always one of my favourite subjects, and this spoke to my sense of the individual handling what came their way.

Giovanni Spezzacatena (Rabideye) "BeeReef 1-4" polyptych 4 x 12" x12" 1.5" Encaustic/mixed media on cradled wood panels. This was what started the intertidal concept for me- the fingers of fresh water streaming into the ocean so visibly dynamic at low tide; a transferring of powers.
